Pier Architecture was approached by the Client with a view to bring an old vicarage they were purchasing up to modern living standards.
The scope of the modernisation included on the ground floor a kitchen/living space that opened onto the rear garden. On the upper floors the Client sought to consolidate the 8 bedrooms into 5 and offer more WC facilities, an office and guest room.
What we did
When we first looked at this project, the building was under review for Designation by English Heritage.
With this in mind we were able to tailor our scope of works and brief in the knowledge that a Listed Building Application will more than likely be required.
At the outset we worked closely with the client to produce a design that was the ideal solution with little regard for listed status. We find that this is the quickest and easiest way to really tease out of a client what is and isn’t important to them. This in turn allows us to use our creative ‘know how’ to transform their ideas and thoughts into a workable scheme.
We have worked closely with the Heritage Officer at Cotswold District Council and our appointed Heritage expert to create a design that fully considers the critical aspects of the Listing and important heritage assets within the building.
To date we have gone through a pre-app process and after integrating the comments of the Listed Building Officer, we have now lodged the main Listed Building Application, which we are hopeful will result in a straightforward planning process.
